Editing code on iPad

Editing code on iPad

My system is a one-to-one school with iPads, so students predominately do their coding on their iPads. This isn't ideal, but works pretty well with coderunner in Moodle.

However, we have run in to an issue where when a student clicks back in to their code after checking it to make a correction, the cursor changes to a typeover, which makes making changes to the code very difficult. This happens in Safari and Chrome apps, so it doesn't seem to be a browser issue. Does anyone know of a setting I might find that would help with this?

Quite a few of our students have ipads and I'm surprised I've never met the problem. A colleague with an ipad tried a quick test and was unable to replicate it, though he tested only with Firefox. He clicked Check to submit an answer, then clicked back in the code and the usual I-bar cursor appeared. Editing continued as usual. He tried several times.

Are you able to confirm, please:

  1. The problem occurs with Firefox, too.
  2. It occurs for all students with ipads, all the time.
  3. It occurs with exactly the sequence of actions above, viz click Check, then click within the code to edit it.
  4. The Ace editor is enabled and is loading correctly (i.e., there is no message saying that it couldn't be loaded and the system is reverting to raw text edit).

If so, I'd like to know, please, what version of CodeRunner you're running. I recently updated CodeRunner to the latest version of the Ace editor so I'd like to know if it's occurring in that version or in the old one.
